The most urgent need is for water storage. Over half of Kenya is classified as under drought situation at present. The nearest water source is 5km (4 Miles) from the site. Samwel currently collects water and takes it to site by foot.

Water storage tanks can make water available on site through the collection of rainwater. To buy the water storage tanks, Samwel needs to raise 18,000 Kenyan Shillings. This is approximately $175 USD or £135 GBP.

Money transfers can be made via Western Union money transfer. This is very simple to do using the Western Union website:
www.westernunion.com

The next phase will be for Samwel to install adequate fencing around the growing site. The total quotation for this is 45,000 Kenyan Shillings or $450 USD / £340 GBP.

A breakdown of the costs are as follows:

FENCING QUOTATION

  • 55 x FENCE POLES = $160USD
  • FENCING WIRE 1 x ROLL = $40USD
  • WIRE MESH (CHICKEN WIRE) 4 ROLLS = $116USD

For Samwel to continue his studies in Organic Farming, it is possible for him to receive free training and advice online, such as via this free Oregon State University course:

http://open.oregonstate.edu/courses/permaculture/

However, to undertake these kinds of courses, and also to continue to run his project with international help, it can be made possible with a computer, and printer to print training materials.

Samwel also aims to build a classroom structure onsite which he will use for skill sharing and workshops for his community.

To realise these Samwel will need to raise more funds.

An online crowdfunding campaign has been set-up to assist the fundraising for the above projects. Thus donations can be made directly to Samwel by contacting him directly, or alternatively via the GoFundMe crowdfunder.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for sharing!

****************UPDATES******************

The crowdfunding has successfully raised enough money to buy the water tanks and the fencing which have now been installed. Thank you to everybody who has donated and to friends who helped spread the word! The campaign is still open for donations, or please contact Samwel directly as per above.
